Q

Why is the pyramid of biomass difficult to construct?

A

Some organisms feed on organisms from different tropic levels.

Measuring dry mass os difficult because it involves removing all the water from the organism.

Q

Explain carbon sinks.

A

Sea animal gain carbon, in their shells, from digesting plants.
When they die it is difficult for them to decay and they sink to the bottom of the ocean.
The fragments get crushed to form rocks such as limestone and chalk.
Eventually these rocks reach the surface get weathered and the carbon gets released back into the atmosphere.
