Recruitment of women

A

Women were recruited into the forces for the first time during the world wars.
1917-18 Women were recruited into the armed forces(auxillary corps, Women’s royal Naval service and the Women’s air force)
1941- Unmarried women aged 20-30 could be conscripted
1944- 212000 women served in a range of uniform military-based roles
1992- Women were integrated into ‘male units’

A

Britain has developed a regular, professional army, which currently has about 85 000 combatants. Including the RAF and the Royal Navy, the total permanent, full-time force is about 150000 people.
