Steps for Precautionary Landing
Identify Spot
* Identify a landing place ( no rush )
* Flying at 500 AGL or 100 under the clouds.
* Get into Low Vis config
1st Circuit
* Fly length ( non traffic ) at height. (non traffic side )
* Bug heading
* Identify aiming point.
* Identify go around point
* Time should be at least 10 - 12 seconds
First downwind
* In close
* Pan pan pan
* Passenger briefing
* Squawk 7700
* ELT on
Second Inspection
* 200 ft
* Detail surface review
* Go around at go around point, climb back up
Second downwind
* Spacing… dont squash in
* Pre-landing checks
* Door handles 45
* Short field approach
After Landing
* Secure plane

Steps for an engine fire - in air
Mixture - IDLE
Fuel - OFF
Fuel Shutoff - OUT
Ignitation - OFF
Throttle IDLE
If fire still not out, dive - goal is 120+ kts.
Land as soon as possible

* Fuel Shut-off - OUT
* Fuel Pump - OFF
Exit Aircarft
Extinish fire - Fire extingushier / Blanket.

- Standby Battery Switch - OFF
- Master Switch - OFF
- Cabin Vents - CLOSED
- Cabin HT and AIR - OFF ( Push in fully )
- Avionics - OFF
- All other switches - OFF

- ALT Static Air - PULL OUT
- Cabin Vents - CLOSED
- Cabin HEAT and Cabin Air - OFF
Maximum Variation is
- 4 kts for airspeed
- 30 feet for altitude
What is the procedure for a High Voltage Warning in a C172?
- Master Switch - ALT ONLY - OFF
Reduce Electical load:
- Avionics Bus 1 - OFF
- PITOT - OFF
- All Lights - OFF
Low Volt Warning - at more than 1000 RPM
- Master Switch ( ALT ) - OFF
- Check Circuit breakers
- Master Switch ( both ) - ON
Check Low Volts Annuciator if Out:
- Monitor charging
If Low Volt Annucator remains lit:
- Master Switch ( ALT ) only - OFF
- Reduce Load. Lights etc
- Land as soon as practical
