What is AIDS (human immune deficiency syndrome)

A
  • caused by HIV (human immunodeficiency syndrome)
  • HIV attacks the immune system which results in a loss of immunity to common diseases
  • A HIV infected person will develop AIDS as the infection progresses and will have a severely damaged immune system
  • the infected person will suffer from brain and lung infection, along with severe weight loss

A
  • bacterial STI
  • Infected persons may suffer from blindness and the inability to use some parts of the body
  • if untreated it may lead to heart failure, insanity or even death

  • bacterial STI
  • infected persons may lose the ability to bear children if the disease spreads to their reproductive system

A

Yes. Bacterial STIs can be curable using anti-biotics.

AIDS however can not be cured using anti-biotics and is incurable and fatal.

A
  • avoid having sex with many partners
  • avoid sharing items that may come into contact with blood
  • use condoms to reduce the risk of infection
  • do not abuse and share drug needles
  • ensure that blood is screened for HIV and is safe for use
