  • He wanted its armed forces reduced dramatically and its borders demilitarised.
  • He wanted reparations to rebuild France.

Why did Clemenceau want to cripple Germany?

A
  • Much of the fighting in WW1 was in France.
  • Many mines, railways, factories, bridges and farmland had been destroyed and needed rebuilding.
  • The French had the most deaths.
  • His people wanted revenge on Germany.
