What is meant by a Schema?
A mental framework/idea about an object and/or experience. These are basic and, for example: how to hold a pen.
What is meant by Assimilation?
When you can apply what you know to a new experience. For example, how to hold a pencil from a pen.
What is meant by Accommodation?
When an existing schema needs to be altered because it does not fit. For example, going from a pen to a fountain pen.
What is meant by Equilibration?
A state of calm when an existing schema exists.
What is meant by Disequilibrium?
A state of panic when an existing schema does not fit.
What is meant by Object Permanence?
Knowing an object continues to exist out of sight.
What is meant by Animism?
Believing an object had real feelings and movements.
What is meant by Egocentrism?
Only seeing the world from their PoV.
What is meant by Class Inclusion?
The ability to classify things into categories.
What is meant by Scaffolding?
Activities provided by a MKO as the child makes their way through the ZPD.
What is meant by Violation of Expectations (VOE)?
Breaking what is expected.
What is meant by the Physical Reasoning System?
The idea we are born hard-wired with both a basic understanding of the physical world and the ability to learn details easily.
