What did Brown vs. Board of Education of Topeka rule?
This court case ruling started the integration of schools. Separate was no longer equal.
What were the first 10 amendments called in the constitution?
Bill of Rights
What was the result of Tinker vs. Des Moines?
Supreme Court decided that students have the right to protest (armbands) If it follows the school dress code and doesn’t distract others from learning.
Mapp vs Ohio provided us with what protection?
The 4th amendment ; unreasonable searches and seizures.
Miranda vs Arizona provided us with what rights?
Right to remain silent, attorney present during questioning.
What are unenumerated rights?
Rights that are aren’t spelt out in the constitution but are still rights
Define the 1st amendment and give an example.
The first amendment says that we should have freedom of speech, freedom of press, freedom of religion, and the right of people to peaceful assemble, and petition the Government for a redress.
An example is that we allowed to have are own political opinion no matter how unpopular your opinion is
Define the 2nd amendment and give an example.
The second amendment says that people have the right to keep and bear arms, should not be disobeyed
an example of this is hunting
Define the 3rd amendment and give an example.
The third amendment states that the government is not allowed to force citizens to let soldiers stay at their house even when they are not in war.
An example of this is a soldier is not allowed to knock on your door and tell you he is staying at your house. And if this happened you have the right to say no.
Define the 4th amendment and an example.
The fourth Amendment gives us the right to have freedom from arrest searches without a specific warrant, and freedom from invading property.
An example of this is a police officer needs to have a search warrant before searching you house.
Define the 5th amendment and give an example.
The fifth Amendment says that you can’t be on trial unless you have proof of crime, it gives you the right to not criminate yourself, stops punishment with legal procedures taking away private property, and prevents trial for a crime except on indictment of Double Jeopardy and Grand Jury.
An example of this is NO DOUBLE JEOPARDY!
Define the 13th Amendment and give an example.
The thirteenth Amendment forms to stop slavery from the US, and other places that are part of the authority.
An example of this is slaves aren’t used in the US or their places because of this amendment.
Define the 14th Amendment and give an example.
The fourteenth amendment says that everyone born in the US, are citizens of the United States and the state that they reside to.
An example is if I were born in Texas, I would be a citizen of the United States.
Define the 15th Amendment and give an example.
The 15th Amendment prevents the federal and state government from not letting a citizen have the right to vote because of its race, color, or previous condition of servitude also known as being a slave.
An example of this is slaves that were previous were allowed to vote because of this amendment.
Define the 19th Amendment and give an example.
The nineteenth Amendment gives us the right to vote and will not be rejected by our gender.
An example of this is women voting.
