what are human resources?
people who work within a business responsible for recruitment selection and training
why are human resources important?
They sort out the organisational structure if there are changes
Make sure employees are motivated = business is efficient

What is a organisational structure and what does it show?
diagram that shows the way people are organised in the business
it shows:
who each worker reports to
who each manager is responsible for
what is the chain of command?
route communication takes as it flows through the business

no. of subordinates a manager is directly responsible

passing if authorities from a manager to subordinate
what is delayering
removes a level of management from the organisational structure
What does a tall organisational structure entail?
many layers of management
narrow span of control
long chain of command
What does a flat organisational structure entail?
few layers of management
wide span of control
short chain of command

Motivation is high=more productive workers=more sales=more profit
Lower supervision= company labour costs reduce=more profit
BUT
Overload on manager= decisions take longer
Less personal contact with subordinates=less motivation
How long does a full time employee work?
Works no. of hours equivalent working to a full week
How long do part time work?
Less than 37 hours

Whats a zero hour contract ?
Employees are not guaranteed s set number of hours to work each week
+ and - of zero hour contract
+flexibility in staff(for business and employees)
+cheaper as they aren’t payed for sick and holiday play
-no regular income so struggle with bills
-pressure to work long hours
One positive and negative of a freelance worker?
Flexible for the business
BUT
No guarantee that the worker will be available so the business may not have enough workers for the task
