Q

conduction vs convection

A

Conduction
-Hot solid comes in contact with the skin
Convection
-Hot liquid/steam comes in contact with skin
-Steam offers a 30 fold increase in heat transfer co-
efficient and thus has the capacity to cause far more
skin damage

Q

Zone of Coagulation:
Zone of Stasis:
Zone of Hyperemia:

A

Zone of Coagulation: circulation dead, tissue is killed/necrosed, the protein is denatured and lost (full thickness)

Zone of Stasis: circulation is reduced but tissue is not killed/necrosed (risk of necrosis)

Zone of Hyperemia: circulation intact but inflammation of tissue exist, tissue not killed

Q

criteria for minor burns

A

-Isolated injury (i.e., no suspicion of inhalation or high-
voltage injury)
-Does not involve face, hands, perineum, or feet
-Does not cross major joints
-Is not circumferential
