- BURNING SENSATION OCCURS (ABSENCE CLINICAL/LABORATORY FINDINGS): PRIMARY OF IDIOPATHIC BMS
- SECONDARY BMS: ASSOCIATED WITH UNDERLING LOCAL (XEROSTOMIA, CHRONICA MOUTH BREATHING, CHRONIC TONGUE THRUST HABIT, CHRONIC MECHANICAL TRAUMA, ORAL CANDIDIASIS) OR SYSTEMIC FACTORS (VITAMIN B DEFICIENCY, DIABETES MELLITUS, CHRONIC GASTRITIS, ESTROGEN DEFICIENCY, ANXIETY, STRESS, DEPRESSION)

- PHARMACOLOGIC THERAPIES: ANXIOLYTICS, ANTIOXIDANTS (ALPHA LIPOIC ACID), ANTIDEPRESSANTS AND/OR ANTICONVULSANTS ALONE/CONBINATION
