Q

sample

A
  • used females 49 and 21 males- final sample - not androcentric like milgrams
    -increasing generalisability
  • although milligram screened out lots of people from the sample which could mean the sample is bias and not representative of a wide range of individuals as he screened people out that had had more than 2 psyc lessons and had anxiety/ mental health conditions he also screened or other factors such as ‘ empethetic concerns’ ‘ self motivation’
    not represneitive
  • although can be seen as a benefit as it is very ethical compared to milgram as many alterations were made to ensure e.g. seizures and extreme anxiety didn’t occur, bt screening out those with anxiety and mental health conditions and only delivering 15V ib the trial as well as only proceeding up to 150v, prevented this occurring again, ensuring that no bps guidelines were breached based on physical and psychological harm
  • screening ppts for having psychologyy lessons also acts as a benefit as it prevented any demand charachteristics if ppts new the aim ensuring all behaviour was natural and any conclusions based on if obedience changes over time are credible and valid

Q

procedure

A

although burger did make a huge assumption that ppts who went to proceed to 165v would go to the full 450V level which isn’t necciciarily true. therefore when comparing findings of 70% to milgrams 65% this may not be accurate comparison.

Q

results

A

milgrams 150v =82.5% nit significant difference
burger found that it was highly likely the same situational factors were around milgrams study still around today, people still obey authority even if it goes against their moral code

burger emphasises that he changed multiple aspects of the study, presencnce of another confederate, gender, time period and yet still found high levels of obedience highlighting powe of authoirurt which can be applied to school and workplaces importance having clear hierarchy ensure people followw authority order

little difference in men and women 12 male and 16 female went to continue
