Review article identifying problems with medication for hypertensive patients that have side effects. Qualitative
Procedure
Statistical analysis of physical and psychological effects of adherence to medication for hypertension, including work, physical well being, hobbies, personal life etc.
results
Medication can cause sleepiness, dizziness, lack of sexual and cognitive functioning
Curd et al 8% patients dropped out due to sexual disfunctioning
Medical research council found 15% dropped out due to side effects
Conclusions
When cost of taking medication outweigh benefits, it is less likely patient adheres.
Occurs usually in asymptomatic problem as results cannot be visibly seen
