Procedure

A

Measured level of fear and perception of how well they could cope

Relaxation exercises

Desensitization: Looked at photos of snakes, once arousal levels had fallen they were put in same room with snakes.

Fear and coping perception measured.

Conclusions

A

Desensitization works, supports self-efficacy because activities led to a change in perception
Shows self efficacy is both cognitive and behavioral concept.
Cognitive- perception affects behavior
Behavioral- perception learnt from past experience
Desensitization comes from associating snake with nothing happening (classical conditioning)
