Bullying
Using strength or intimidation to force someone to do something
Why does bullying occur?
Need for power, find satisfaction in causing injury and suffering, attention, they are rewarded with it
Bullying is NOT
A mutual teasing between two friends. No emotional or physical abuse
How to recognize a bully?
Positive attitude towards violence, strong need to dominate others, impulsive aggressive easily angered, lack of empathy for those who are bullied, defiance and aggression towards adults
To be considered bullying it has to be
Intentional, repetitive, hurtful, imbalance of power, creates fear or terror
Warning signs of suicide
Change in appetite, loss of interest in activities, feeling of worthlessness, recurring thoughts of death
How to stand up to a bully (5 ways)
- Take a breathe
- Sit or stand tall
- Keep your hands at your sides
- Have a relaxed facial expression
- Keep eye contact
