Q

What should be done if FUEL IMBALANCE EICAS message occurs in flight?

A

Check fuel quantity readings to determine if the fuel quantity is fluctuating, or if a true imbalance or fuel leak exists. If the fuel quantity fluctuates or suddenly increases or decreases and remains at a low level, and an imbalance or fuel leak is not suspected, consider the indications erroneous.

Q

What should be done when required to cruise at an altitude below optimum?

A

Set the STEP (L4) size to zero on the ACT ECON CRZ page. This ensures best available FMC FUEL and ETA predictions.

Q

The PASSENGER ADDRESS EICAS status message shows before dispatch, what must be done?

A

Instruct the cabin crew to make sure all cabin speakers are working. If all cabin speakers are working, the PASSENGER ADDRESS status message may be considered a nuisance and dispatch is allowed.

Q

Will the FMC allow the crew to enter two different waypoints with the same identifier?

A

No, the crew will have to enter the LAT/LON for the second waypoint until the first is sequenced.

Q

What should be done with loss of engine thrust control?

A

Engine Limit/Surge/Stall checklist, except for a failure to a high power setting on the ground, when the flight crews should shut down the malfunctioning engine immediately.

13
Q

Should the crew open the fuel crossfeed valve after an in-flight engine shutdown?

A

Flight crews should keep the fuel crossfeed valve closed unless directed to open the valve by a non-normal checklist.

Q

What should the flight crew do if the ELEC BUS ISLN L and ELEC BUS ISLN R EICAS messages occur simultaneous during engine start, pushback or taxi phases of flight?

A

Flight crews may reset the Bus Tie Switches without checking for correlated maintenance messages on the ground only. If at all possible, this procedure should be done while in contact with engineering/MCC.

16
Q

What should be done in case of a tail strike without the EICAS caution message TAIL STRIKE on the 777-300? And the 777-200?

A

Crews should continue the flight on the 300, but return to land when on the 200.

17
Q

What should the crew do to avoid overspeeding in cruise?

A

Temporarily deploy partial speed brakes.

18
Q

Which engine conditions should crews be aware of regarding the GE90 engine?

A

The bowed rotor starts with N2 vibration, starter air valve being slow to open leading to a ENG AUTOSTART L/R message and oil gulping.

19
Q

When will a CONFIG GEAR STEERING warning message appear?

A

N1 exceeds 60% and main gear PCA is in the unlocked position.

20
Q

If a loss of power to the Right Transfer bus is suspected after approach mode is selected, what can be done?

A

De-select and reselect approach mode.

21
Q

Should the auto land be used for overweight landings?

A

No.

22
Q

If an AFDS anomaly is observed where individual pilot-selected AFDS modes are not responding normally to MCP switch selections, what can be done?

A

Attempt to correct the problem by disconnecting the autopilot and selecting both flight director switches to OFF.

23
Q

What can be done in case of excessive ground returns from the weather radar?

A

Deselect weather radar on both EFIS control panels for more than one second. Reselect as needed.

24
Q

Are all fire warnings to be considered genuine?

A

No, they could be spurious due to hair spray, smoking in lavatories and insecticide spraying. Further investigation might be warranted before deciding on action to be taken.

25
Q

What should be done if the left and right LRRA disagree significantly, or if either one appears to be providing an erroneous altitude reading?

A

Automation should be disengaged.

26
Q

What are some symptoms for ice crystal icing?

A

High altitude, in clouds, overflying strong weather returns, appearance of rain on the windscreen, possibly TAT near zero, light to moderate turbulence. Pilot reports from events vary and not all the symptoms noted above are reported in every event.

27
Q

What should be done if ice crystal icing is suspected?

A

Exit ice crystal icing conditions. Request a route change to minimize time above red and amber radar returns.

28
Q

What does the message RUNWAY SYS EICAS Advisory/Status indicate?

A

If occurring on the ground prior to take-off or on final approach this message indicatesthat the Smart Runway and Smart Landing advisories are not available to the flight crew.
