hygiene as a need and how can be met:
the ability to was, shower or bath may be limited due to poor mobility/frailty
helping to wash users e.g. help clean teeth to prevent discomfort, skin complaints and spread of infection
ensurong they are provided with regular lean chang of sheets, towels and tolitries to maintain and promote self-esteem
nutrition as a need and how can be met
older peoples ability to feed themselves may be affected by restricted mobility or frailty
providing regular healthy balanced meals, to provide a range of nutritnts for the older person to maintain good health
older peopel may require softer foods that aren’t too spicy, chewing/swallowing problems
providing regular fluids to help physical strength and reduce risk of dehydration
warmth as a need and how can be met
due to mobility problems, user may not be as active and aren’t elevating their metabolism and generate heat, which lead to a feeling of being cold all the time- also due to medication
making sure the reidential home is kept warm and checking if the individual need balnkets for extra warmth both day/night- prevetn deterioration of health
making sure they are wearinf suitable clothing to keep warm

many users need medical care to manage conditions- to control pain
giving prescribed medication at required time and in required dosage to manage any condition
organising a nurse or GP to visit and monitior the user health and provide with correct medication
exercise as a need and how can be met
due to limited mobility a weakened cardiovascular system or arthritis- most exercising can be difficult
providing gently exercisee e.g. taking older person out for walks around garden- reducing stiffness and impove range of movements
for those with limited mobiliy- chair exercise, which follow pysiotherapy programmes which can be done in bed or in a chair- improve range of movements
what are the intellectual needs of an older person?

limited mobility problems, lack of co-ordination or problems with eye-sight, users can find it difficult to engage in stimulating activities
encouraging user to keep minds active by providing range of books- improvigng cognitive function
provision of daily newspapers to keep up-to-date with current affairs and complete crosswords, strengthen short-term memory- reducing risk dementia
provision of range of activities in residential care such as hobbies and games to keep them challenged e.g. table quizzes, board games
learning new skills as a need and how can be met
users may have to give up hobbies as it requires too much mobility
provding oppourtunity to learn new skills e.g. IT/social media classes, gardening, card making, learning a new language- this helps slow cognative ageing, strengthens communication skills- sense of accomplishment and boosting self-confidence

users feel more anxious and uncertain about what future holds, needs someone to listen to their worries and concerns
