1959 gusset plates were invented allowing lightweight trusses to be commercially available

Now commercially available decreasing cost and labor

Available in early 80s

Common roof styles in Phoenix
Gable, common in ranch style, hip, Dutch Gable, sawtooth, true mansard and false mansard
Bow strung
Older method of spanning large areas. Now 50 to 80 years old. Failure of one truss has the potential of failing an extremely large area
Parallel cord truss
Lightweight truss where top and bottom chord are parallel connected with gusset plates
Panelized roofs
Commonly found in tilt slab buildings
