A

It was a new idea and nobody knew if it would work. Many people doubted that it may weaken the British empire and perhaps even strengthen some of Britain’s enemies like the united states of America and France.

A

Britain repealed corn laws in 1846 which had given trading privileges to British colonies

How did Corn laws effect Canada’s economy?

A

Canadian grain had always enter into Britain with low duties which had helped wheat and flour expand in Upper Canada. But now Britain wanted to move towards free trade and get the cheapest wheat and flour possible from any country.

Because of this Canada’s economy fell in depression

A

Canada built ships for Britain’s trade and exported raw materials and agricultural products. But been able to manufactured very little. Trade wasn’t good with Britain and was beginning to consider possibility of creating own country.
