What is cranial nerve III?
Oculomotor nerve
What is cranial nerve IV?
Trochlear nerve
What is cranial nerve V?
Trigeminal nerve
What is cranial nerve VI?
Abducens nerve
What is cranial nerve VII?

What is the function of CNI?
Smell
What is the function of CNII?
Vision
What is the motor function of CNIII?
Extraocular muscles (except SO and LR)
What is the motor function of CNIV?
Superior oblique muscle
What is the sensory and motor function of CNV?
Sensory - sense of touch - face (eyelid)
Motor - mastication
What is the motor function of CNVI?
Lateral rectus muscle
What is the sensory and motor function of CNVII?
Sensory - taste
Motor - facial expression and lacrimal gland
What is the function of CNVIII?
Hearing and sense of motion
What is the sensory and motor function of CNIX?
Sensory - taste
Motor - swallowing and parotid gland
What is the sensory and motor function of CNX?
Sensory - viceral sensory, sense of touch mouth/throat
Motor - swallowing, speech, visceromotor
What is the motor function of CNXI?
Trapezius and sternocleidomastoid muscles
What is the function of CNXII?
Intrinsic muscles of the tongue
What 2 muscles does the superior division of CNIII innervate?
Superior rectus, levator palpebrae superioris
What 3 muscles does the superior division of CNIII innervate?
Splits into three branches to innervate:
Medial rectus
Inferior rectus
Inferior oblique
What is commentable about a specific branch of CNIII as it passes to innervate its muscle? What does this branch contain?
The nerve to the inferior oblique gives rise to a thick branch which passes the ciliary ganglion and contains parasympathetic fibres.
What nerves arise from the ciliary ganglion, and what do they supply?
Short ciliary nerves, supplying the ciliary muscles and sphincter pupillae.
Which is the most slender cranial nerve?
IV trochlear
Name the three divisions of the trigeminal nerve.
Division I - ophthalmic
Division II - maxillary
Division III - mandibular
What three nerves pass above the tendinous ring?
Frontal nerve, lacrimal nerve, and cranial nerve IV
What four nerves pass through the tendinous ring?
cranial nerve III (superior/inferior division), cranial nerve VI, and nasociliary nerve.
