A
Ingestion of raw milk from infected cattles or goats

What is the incubation period for brucellosis
A

A
- Fever
- malaise
- rigors
- joint pain
- headache
- weakness
- anorexia
- pain in the limbs and back

A
- Lymphadenopathy
- pancytopenia
- hepatosplenomegaly
- spinal tenderness

What are the complications of brucellosis
A
- Relapse after two years
- Localized disease causing suppurative or granulomatous lesion including arthritis spondylitis, bursitis, endocarditis, liver granuloma, meningioencephalitis, osteomyelitis, epididymo-orchitis, pneumonia, hepatitis
-  chronic brucellosis: low-grade fever and neuropsychiatric symptoms

A
- Blood culture
- bone culture
- Brucella antibody titler test
- PCR test (serology)
- CSF culture

How do you manage brucellosis
A
- Doxycycline 200mg daily for six weeks
- rifampicin/streptomycin/gentamicin 600 to 900 mg daily for six weeks

How do you prevent brucellosis
A
- Pasteurization of milk
- immunization of animals
- slaughtering of infected animals
