“He walks the sidewalk and the thin tissue over violence”
Metaphor showing that it’s so easy to trigger someone into becoming violent as thin tissue is so easy to break through.
“He is a gorilla”
Simile, reputation throughout the poem of gorilla, he is now a gorilla instead of like one. He is violent and large.
“Gunshots between phoebes Wham-burger and Louie’s place”
Suggests mafia hangouts, violence around every corner in New York using guns.
“Who would be him, gorilla with a nightstick”
Who would want to become a violent person for a job? Again emphasises that he is a violent cop. Doesn’t use a gun instead a nightstick suggests he enjoys physical violence.
“Who would be who have to his victims?”
Rhetorical question, Creates sympathy for those who meet the cop. Innocent lives are lost of the policeman to do his job is it really right.?
