Bronchopulmonary Dysplasia Flashcards
Definition of BPD
Oxygen requirement 1st 28 days
Mild BPD in less than 32 weeker
RA at 36 weeks PMA
Moderate BPD in less than 32 weeker
<30% O2 @ 36 weeks PMA
Severe BPD in less than 32 weeker
> 30% O2 @ 36 weeks PMA and mechanical support, CPAP, or ventilation
Mild BPD in more than 32 weeker
RA @ 56 DOL
Moderate BPD in more than 32 weeker
<30% O2 @ 56 DOL
Severe BPD in more than 32 weeker
> 30% O2 @ 56 DOL and mechanical support, CPAP, or ventilation
Patient with BPD must be monitored for what important cardiovascular complication
Cor pulmonale
A pulmonary exacerbation of BPD is typically triggered during what condition
Viral URTI
Chest wall configuration that comes about from BPD
Increased AP diameter from air trapping
Infants requiring supplemental O2 beyond this age have higher incidence of lower airway obstruction and bronchodilator responsiveness and are more likely to be hospitalized during their toddler years than their peers
35 weeks PMA
Beta agonists may worsen air exchange in what population of BPD patients
Those with concomitant airway malacia
BPD patients that worsen with beta agonists may benefit from what drugs
1) Inhaled ipratropium 2) Oral methylxanthines
Oxygen saturation goal for supplemental oxygen therapy after discharge in BPD patients
> 90%
Caloric intake required for patients with BPD
120-160 kcal/kg/day
