Investigations

A

Nasopharyngeal aspirate
CXR NOT routinely but if: severe illness with suspected sepsis; apnoea; aspiration, cardiac failure or CF suspected
Blood gas if deteriorating and may need ventilation

Management

A
  1. Low threshold for admission 90%
  2. Other: Abx if suspect secondary bacterial infection; Palivzumab (monthly monoclonal Ab to prevent RSV) in those with severe chronic lung disease (home O2)
    NOT steroid, bronchodilators, adrenaline or ribavarin
