- Papacy is a medieval tradition, post Vatican II
- By middle of the 3rd century, the bishop begins to be a regional authority

- Recognition and use in the early church
- Fragments and usage in the early church. Polycarp, Athanasius, Origen, Didache, etc..
- Gradual and organic formulation. Intrinsic authority of Scripture - Intrinsic Authority
- Agreement with the teachings in the church
- Apostolicity
In sum, the 4th century was decisive in recognizing the canon, but not creative in recognizing the books.
