1660- British involvement in India with EIC, a royal charter granted by Queen Elizabeth 1
- at first relationships with Mughals are good but disputes over trading leads to a war in 1686
- Mughals won the war, but English involvement didn’t end.
- England began to compete with the french over India
- 1757 : English win war against Indians and french together
