What is a Dominion?
A country that governs themselves but are overlooked by a Governor appointed by the Crown.
What is the definition of an “empire”?
An extensive group of states or countries governed by a single monarch, oligarchy or state.
When did Sir Walter Raleigh sail to America with his half-brother to form a colony?
1578.
What did Sir Walter Raleigh do on one of his expeditions that upset James I and led to his execution?
He attacked the Spanish when searching for El Dorado.

When was the Sepoy Rebellion.
1857.
Why did the Sepoy Rebellion happen?
- The British wanted to conquer more lands in India. This meant that the Sepoys were fighting against fellow Indians.
- A new rifle was invented and you had to bite the end off the cartridge which had beef and pork fat on. This upset both Muslims and Hindus.
- Taxes were incredibly high and people were hungry as well as not being paid enough.
What was the new rifle introduced that may have sparked the Sepoy rebellion?
Lee Enfield Rifle.

A Sepoy was an Indian soldier.

What was the Royal African Company?
A company that acted under the Queen and had a monopoly over resources from East Africa. They traded valuable resources, spice, food and slaves to America.
