Q

What are the Mx options for Breech? (3 things)

A
  1. External cephalic version (ECV)
  2. C section
  3. Vaginal breech birth
17
Q

What is External cephalic version (ECV)?

A

Manipulating foetus to cephalic presentation thru mums abd

18
Q

What is the success rate of External cephalic version (ECV)?

A

50%

19
Q

What increases the success rate of External cephalic version (ECV)?

A

Multiparity

20
Q

What is a complication of External cephalic version (ECV)?

A

Transient foetal heart abn

(transient, so they revert to normal)

21
Q

What is a CI for Vaginal breech birth?

A

Footling breech

22
Q

Why is Footling breech a CI for Vaginal breech birth?

A

Feet + legs can slip thru non-fully dilated cervix –> shoulders + head get trapped

23
Q

What are the complications of Breech? (4 things)

A
  1. Cord prolapse
  2. Premature rupture of membranes
  3. Birth asphyxia (no blood flow to brain)
  4. Intracranial haemorrhage
24
Q

Why do you get Intracranial haemorrhage with Breech?

A

Bc rapid compression of head @ delivery

25
Q

What is cord prolapse?

A

Umbilical cord drops below presenting part of baby n gets compressed

26
Q

What percentage of Breech get cord prolapse?

A

1%
