Breathing Techniques Flashcards

1
Q

What’s abdominal/diaphragmatic breathing

A

Breathing using abdominal movement reducing the degree of chest wall movement as much as possible, breathing control is normal today breathing encouraging relaxation of the upper chest and shoulder, the differentiation of diaphragmatic from breathing control Is not universally recognised

Q

How to do abdominal breathing

A

Relaxed position, rest a hand on the abdomen, keep shoulders relaxed, breathe in slowly so hand rises, sigh out, try and increase depth of breathing

Q

What is deep breathing (TEE) though to do

A

Increase lung volume, increase ventilation, decrease airway resistance, increase surfactant secretion, aid VQ matching, decrease dead space, increase diffusion, increase O2 saturation

Q

How to do deep breathing

A

Breathe in deeply via nose, breath out of mouth, relaxed not forced, long And slow, physio places hand over thorax to evaluate/facilitate, 3-4 breaths, rest, use breath hold at full inspiration, possible sniff

Q

Why are TEEs done

A

Increase lung volume, allows air behind secretions to move towards the mouth, there’s reduced resistance behind collateral channels , increases flow, secretions move with flow, secretion does put shift if lung is hyper-inflated
