breathing Flashcards
how to measure breathing
tidal volume, respiratory rate, minute volume, vital capacity, residual volume
tidal volume
the amount you breath in and out during one normal breath.
respiratory rate
how many breaths you take per minute
minute volume
the volume of air you breath in one minute
vital capacity
the maximum volume of air you can breath out after breathing in as much as you can
residual volume
is the amount of air left in your lungs after you have breathed out as hard as you can
respiration increases
when more oxygen is used up and levels of co2 rises.
a signal is sent to the lungs to increase breathing when
the brain detects increasing levels of co2
gaseous exchange takes place when
breathing rate and volume of air increase each breath
