what is a one stop clinic?
people can be referred to‘one stop’ clinic by their GP if they have signs or symptoms that meet the breast cancer “2 week wait” referral criteria, or if there has been a suspicious finding on their routine breast cancer screening mammography.
what is the main imaging done during a triple assesment?
either
1) mammography
2) ultrasound scanning (more useful in women 35 and under). Also used in core biopsies.
what is the use of a core biopsy?
A biopsy is required of any suspicious mass or lesion presenting to the clinic. It provides full histology and differentiation between invasive and in-situ carcinoma.
Also allows tissue grading and staging.
how is the case managed?
MDT discussion for suitable treatment plan
what are the three components of a triple assessment?
- examination
- imaging (e.g mammogram - usually older as younger people have denser tissue, USS)
- pathology from biopsy
