Braze SMS Flashcards
GSM
A network Term - GSM (Global System for Mobile communication) is a digital mobile network that is widely used by mobile phone users in Europe and other parts of the world.
UCS-2
Network term - The Universal Coded Character Set (UCS) is the standard used to represent any non-GSM-7 characters. UCS-2 represents all characters with 2 bytes.
Alphanumeric Sender ID
Alphanumeric Sender ID allows our clients to send Programmable SMS messages from a personalized sender name (rather than using a phone number) in supported countries.
Application-to-Person A2P
A2P messaging is used for one-way SMS where the sender does not expect the recipient to reply.
Common examples of A2P messaging are marketing messages, 2-Factor Authentication (2FA), and appointment reminders.
Long Code
A long code number is a standard phone number used to send and receive voice calls and SMS messages. Phone numbers are typically called “long codes” (10-digit numbers in many countries) when comparing them with SMS short codes (5-6 digit numbers).
P2P (Person to person)
P2P messaging happens when two or more people are speaking back-and-forth to one another over SMS.
Short-code
A short code is a special 5 or 6 digit telephone number that’s shorter than a full phone number. Short codes are used to send and receive SMS and MMS messages to and from mobile phones.
MMS
Short for “Multimedia Messaging Service.” MMS is similar to SMS, but MMS messages have a longer character limit, and you can enhance them with photos, gifs, audio files, and video files as well.
We support attachments with the following image file formats:

Please Note: If your message (including body text and media) is larger than 5 MB, your message request will fail.
SMS
SMS stands for Short Message Service and is another name for a text message. An SMS is generally sent from one mobile device to another over the cellular network. SMS is a text-only standard first formalized in 1985 in the Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) standards.
SMS Character limit
The character limit for a single SMS message is 160 characters, however, most modern phones and networks support concatenation and segment and rebuild messages up to 1600 characters. Messages not using GSM-7 encoding are limited to 67 characters.
UDH
User Data header - a binary structure which may be present at the start of a short message in the Short Message Service in GSM.
TCPA
the holy grail of text law— in it, you’ll find the do’s and don’ts for using cell phone numbers to market goods and services.
