Q

PDN - non course info example

A

Your teacher may start talking about a really interesting documentary he’s just seen on Arte. The documentary’s mention is a coincidence, and will not appear in the course materials. If you don’t make a note of it, the reference will probably be lost.

Q

PDN - qinomic - focus on BECAUSE

A

I draw your attention to the argument. In the source text, the little key word that signals the presence of an argument is “BUT”. When I rephrase the arugment, I try to put it in the form Affirmation BECAUSE justification. 99% of arguments can be rephrased using PARCE QUE.

16
Q

PDN - qinomic - why implied “because”

A

Why don’t we see this in the source text? It’s implied. For reasons of style, fluency and to avoid repetition, articulate language makes a lot of ellipsis. But that doesn’t prevent us from understanding. But in the interests of analysis, as in this case, I invite you to reformulate the arguments and explanations with the help of BECAUSE.

17
Q

PDN - qinomic - what is the value of collecting

A

What is the value of this collecting concept, facts and arguments ? General knowledge ? Yes. But pay attention to the argument. If you make room for it in your memory, you will have ammunitions for future debates.

18
Q

PDN - qinomic - example of debate about electric cars

A

Suppose you are attending a talk in which people argue about weither or not we should force consumers to switch to electric cars. Some people might say that it will be an enormous and absurd waste to get rid of perfectly working thermal engine cars. You will be able to say “no, you are wrong”. because it’s possible to transform thermal cars into electric cars. It’s called retrofitting, and the car industry is catching on to the technology;

19
Q

PDN - neolithic - exo prez

A

“Here is an example of a slide that you will encounter in your economics course. I suggest that you practice collecting information from this text: concepts, facts, and arguments. You have 5 minutes.”

20
Q

PDN - neolithic - correction

A

“Here is my correction of the exercise.”
