Brain Structure Function Review Flashcards
Central nervous system (CNS)
Planning motor actions (data gathering, goal setting, organizing, decision making) and initiating motor actions
Cerebrum
Houses the conscious mind, stores learned experiences, receives sensory information
Motor cortex
Initiating of motor plan commands, sending out motor plan commands
Somatosensory cortex
Pain, touch, temperature, movement, cardiovascular function
Visual cortex
Interpretation of movement (speed/direction), color, shading, pattern recognition
Diencephalon
Regulates autonomic nervous system, controls hormonal secretion/endocrine function, regulates limbic system functioning
Thalamus
Relay station, processing info from brain stem to cerebrum,
Cerebellum
Plans smooth, coordinated movements
Brain stem
Passage way for fibers between spinal cord and cerebrum and processes, filters and routes signals
Reticular information
Controls programmed, autonomic movements behavior
Spinal cord
Links CNS to PNS, tunes modifies efferent commands, houses pattern generators
Reacting brain (limbic system)
Includes memory, emotional control, motivation, hormonal regulation, sex drive and feeding
Amygdala
Impulsive decision making
