Brain parts Flashcards
occipital lobe
Primary visual cortest
Receives, processes, and integrates visual information
parietal lobe
processing sensory information, including touch, pressure, temperature, and pain, essentially allowing you to understand your body’s position in space and interpret sensory input from the environment
cerebellum
responsible for coordination
Temporal lobe
memory & hearing
brain stem
involutary actions like breathing
frontal lobe
social skills like planning
A. Dendrite
receive messages from other cells
B. cell body
the life support of the cell where the action potential process takes place.
C. Axon
moves signals away from the cell body and towards other neurons, muscles, or glands
D. Mylin Sheath
covers the axon to make neurons more conductant and faster
E. synapse
a space where the neurons are close to each other the cell axon that is sending the energy
Amygdala
This structure is primarily responsible for processing emotions, especially those related to fear and aggression. It plays a key role in triggering the “fight or flight” response when encountering a threatening situation.
Hippocampus
Located within the temporal lobe, the hippocampus is crucial for forming new memories and consolidating short-term memories into long-term storage. It also plays a role in spatial navigation and memory of locations.
Hypothalamus
This part of the brain acts as a control center for various bodily functions including regulating body temperature, hunger, thirst, sleep cycles, and hormone secretion. It also influences emotional responses through its connections to other limbic structures.
