Brain Function 🧠 Flashcards
Frontal lobe
Voluntary skeletal motor control and higher cognitive functions
Parietal lobe
Somatic sensory processing
Occipital lobe
Visual processing
Temporal lobe
Auditory processing and olfactory processing
Broca’s area
Involved in the motor production of speech
WERNICKES area
Involved in the understanding of written and spoken language
Pons
Relays sensory information to thalamus and cerebellum
Regulates reflexive visceral and motor activities
Medulla oblongata
Relays sensory information to thalamus and brainstem also is the autonomic center for visceral activities ( cardiovascular and respiratory and digestive )
Cerebellum
Monitors and adjust postural muscles, coordinates and adjusts skilled movements controlled at the conscious and subconscious levels
Corpus callosum
Interconnects the left and right hemispheres of the cerebral cortex to allow information sharing
Thalamus
Relays sensory information from periphery to cortex
Hypothalamus
Regulates emotions autonomic functions and hormone production
Pituitary gland
Production of hormones, regulation of other endocrine glands
Hippocampus
Memory storage
