Brain anatomy Flashcards
1
Q
What does the Falx cerebri do
A
- creates division and prevents the membrane from moving too much
- create venous sinuses as it folds which collects oxygen depleted blood
2
Q
What do arachnoid granulations do
A
- structures filled with CSF
- extends into the venous sinuses
- allow drainage of CSF from SA space into Venous System (superior saggital sinus)
3
Q
What are subdural (epiarachnoid space) and extradural spaces (epidural)
A
- extradural spaces= space between cranial bones and dura mater layer
- subdural= space between meningeal layer of dura matter and the inner arachnoid space
4
Q
3 most important structures of dura mater
A
▪ Falx cerebri (divides two cerebral hemispheres)
▪ Tentorium cerebelli (divides cerebral hemispheres from
cerebellum)
▪ Dural venous sinuses
5
Q
What does CSF do
A
- CSF flows through ventricle system
- cushions CNS from physical insult
- produced by filtration blood through CP
6
Q
What is the CerebroSpinal Fluid pathway
A
- Chloroid Plexus makes CSP
- flows from CP– third ventricle – cerebral aqueduct – forth ventricle– lateral aperture – medium aperture – into subarachnoid space
7
Q
How does the CSF go back to the blood
A
- brain and spinal cord– into subaracnoid space – venous – filtered out via arachnoid granulations (AVilli)
8
Q
What does the Pia mater do
A
- delicate but impermeable barrier adhered to cerebral cortex
9
Q
What is contained in Arachnoid mater
A
it is the subarachnoid space in it and is web like and is filled with CSF that cushions the brain protecting from trauma
