Long thoracic nerve
Comes off a root. Travels anterior to the anterior scalene, between the clavicle and rib 1. Innervates the serratus anterior.
Suprascapular nerve
Comes off a trunk, travels between the posterior scalene and the upper trapezius. Travels to the scapula and innervated supra and infra spinatus
Medial pectoral nerve
Comes off a cord, travels between the pec minor and major. Innervates both pectoralis muscles.
Lateral pectoral nerve
Comes off a cord and travels between the pectoralis muscles. Innervates the pec major.
Subscapular nerve
Comes off of a cord. Splits int superior and inferior subscapular and thoracodorsal nerves.
Muscles innervated by superior subscapular nerve
Subscapularis
Muscles innervated by the thoracodorsal nerve
Latissimus dorsi
Muscles innervated by the inferior subscapular nerve
Teres major
Dorsal scapular nerve
Originates from C5, passes posterior to the middle scalene, then travels along the border of the scapula. Innervates the levator scapula and the rhomboids
Nerve to subclavius
Originates from a superior trunk. Passes antero-inferior over subclavian artery and vein. Innervates the subclavius
Accessory nerve (CN XI)
Not a part of the brachial plexus. Descends from the neck to the SCM and trapezius.
Branches of the brachial plexus
Axillary, musculocutaneous, raidal, median, ulnar.
Path of the axillary nerve
Comes off of a cord, then travels through the axilla. Divides into anterior and posterior branches and creates a cuff around the deltoid.
Muscles innervated by the axillary nerve
Deltoid and teres major.
Path of the musculocutaneous nerve
Comes off of a cord, then travels deep to the pec minor. Pierces the coracobrachialis and travels down the anterior humerus.
Muscles innervated by the musculocutaneous nerve
Biceps brachii, brachialis, coracobrachialis
Path of the radial nerve
Comes off of a cord. Travels deep to pec minor and through the axilla then down the posterior humerus between the medial and lateral heads of triceps brachii.
