Brachial Plexus Flashcards
What is the anterior rami?
divisions of the cervical spinal nerves and first thoracic spinal nerve
Roots
anterior rami of the spinal nerves
Trunks
Roots converge to form trunks
- Superior
-Middle
-Inferior
Roots of Superior Trunk
C5-C6
Roots of Middle Trunk
C7
Roots of Inferior Trunk
C8-T1
Divisions
One division moves anteriorly and the other posteriorly. 3 anterior and 3 posterior nerve fibers
Axilla
an area that lies underneath the glenohumeral joint, at the junction of the upper limb and the thorax. A passageway where neurovascular and muscular structures can enter and leave the upper limb.
Cords
Formed once the divisions enter the axilla, named by their position relative to the axillary artery.
Formation of Lateral Cord
anterior division of superior trunk
anterior division of middle trunk
Formation of Posterior Cord
Posterior division of superior trunk
Posterior division of middle trunk
Posterior division of inferior trunk
Formation of Medial Cord
Anterior division of inferior trunk
