What are the landmarks for a BQA injection site?
In front shoulder blade, under nuchal ligament, above cervical vertebrae
What are the rules if giving a brucella vaccine?
Goes SQ
1. Must be a heifer 4-12 months
2. Must have permanent ID
3. Must have tattoo (R shield year)
4. Must report to the state vet
What is the brucella vaccine we give?
RB51
What needs to be kept as records according to BQA?
Individual ID, vaccine type, serial, location, date, dosage used, route and location, withdraw, name person administering
How should you handle a vaccine?
Mix carefully, keep out of light, keep cool (not frozen) and only keep the amount of time recommended
What size needles are used for SQ and IM?
SQ: 3/4
IM: 1.5
If you have the option to give a vaccine IM or SQ which should you do?

Read label, dose, route

Shipping to state that requires it

Wear gloves, mix away from your face

Middle rib of ear as close to cow as possible (1/3)

To increase ADG and income on cow (5.3% increase in gain at weaning)
