What are quartiles

A

Percentiles that divide data into 4 equal region. Given by Q1, Q2, and Q3

What is the interquartile range and how do you find it (IQR)

A

Interquartile range is the difference between the first and third quartile.

Interquartile range= Q3-Q1

Name the 4 steps in finding quartiles in a data set

A

1) order the data from smallest to largest
2) find the median (this will be Q2)
3) the first quartile (Q1) is then the median of the lower half
4) the third quartile (Q3) is then the median of the upper half

How to do a Box plot

A

1) Find the highest and lowest data values in the entire data set. These will be your high and low points
2) draw a line on the left side of the box with numbers correlating from the data set
3) draw a box correlating with Q1, Q2, and Q3
