What is privation?
When a child has never formed an attachment bond and leaves long lasting damage
What did Freud and Dann report on?
6 children in a nazi camp, who were orphaned at a few months so had no attachments
What were the children like from Freud and Danns study?
They had little language, didn’t know what to do with toys and were hostile
What happened over time did Freud and Dann find?
The children became attached to their carers which lessens support for Bowlby’s MDH
What did Curtis and Rymer report on?(main one)
Genie, a girl denied human interaction and was beaten and strapped into a potty seat until age of 13
What could genie not do?
Couldn’t speak, stand up and spent most her time spitting
What did genie receive?
Therapy and developed some language skills - 18 she returned to the care of her mother before being put into care
Why are case studies used?
It would be unethical to collect data any other way
