What did Bowlby argue?
That attachment bonds developed through evolution as a control system to maintain proximity to an adult who will ensure the baby’s survival
What is the monotropic theory?
The idea that infants have an inbuilt tendency to make an initial attachment with one attachment figure
What have infants become through evolution?
Genetically programmed to perform social releases to stimulate adult interactions like crying
What did Bowlby believe about critical periods?
To form an attachment it is prior to 12 months old
What is the internal working model?
A cognitive framework used to understand the world self and others that act as a template for the future relationships
