Bowlby's Theory Evaluation Flashcards
Strength to Imprinting.
Lorenz. Baby gooslings imprinted on him as their mother. Enhanced their survival.
Strength to Sensative Period.
Hodges and Tizard. Children who didn’t form an attachment had difficulties with peers.
Strength to Universality.
Tronick et al. African tribe - many women fed a baby but the attachment lied with its mother.
Strength to Monotropy and Hierarchy.
Tronick et al. Women were a secondary attachment, but mother a primary.
Strength to Caregiver sensitivity.
Schaffer. Observed infants whose mothers responded quickly with the most sensitivity. Weakly attached infants’ mothers didn’t respond enough.
Strength to Continuity hypothesis.
Minnesota longitudinal study. Followed participants from infancy to late adolscence. Found continuity between early attachments and later behaviour.
Describe the weakness Multiple Attachments.
There are no secondary or primary attachments. Siblings are important for learning how to negotiate with peers - Grossmans.
Prior found evidence that points towards Bowlby’s theory, however.
Describe the weakness Alternate explanation.
