what is Peutz-Jehgers syndrome?
intestinal polyposis in the small intestine
which intestine has the bigger risk of polyps turning into carcinoma?
large intestine
what are Gardiner’s syndrome and Cowden’s syndrome?
intestinal polyposis in the large intestine
what is the Duke’s classification of colonic carcinoma?
A - submucosal
B - muscularis
C - lymph nodes
D - liver
what is the treatment for colonic cancer?
surgery, hepatic metastases, radiotherapy, chemotherapy
what surgery is used for colonic cancer?
resection of bowel tissue - sometimes not possible however so instead the bowel is brought out onto the surface as a stoma
what is the test used for colonic cancer screening?
FIT test - faecal immunochemical test
apart from a FIT test what are the other screening tests possible?
barium enema, endoscopy, CT/MRI scan, carcinoembryonic antigen
