What are the three Hidden rules for safety critical roles?
1 - Maximum shift length of 12 hours.
2 - Minimum of 12 hours rest before starting a safety critical shift.
3 - Not worked more than 13 shifts consecutively.
How much rest do you need prior to a non-safety critical shift, according to Hidden?
A minimum of 9 hours.
How many hours are you rostered over an average working week and over how many days?
35 hours on average over a 4 day working week (Sundays outside) and a maximum of 42 rostered hours.
When you book on, you are signing to say…
1 - You have all relevant publications, equipment, licences etc.
2 - To the best of your knowledge you are fit to perform a safety critical role.
3 - You are compliant with the D&A policies.
4 - You have required glasses with you.
5 - You have read the late and new notice boards.

What notice cases must you read each time you book on and what information do they contain?
1 - The late notice case; contains information related to the safety of the line (displayed for up to 72 hours, unless emergency speed restriction).
2 - New notice case; more general information and updates not specifically related to the safety of the line (displayed for up to three weeks before being moved to relevant publication)
Other than the late and new notice cases, what other notice cases may you find while booking on?

Where would you find information about a train you are due to drive from the depot/sidings and what information will this include?
The ‘Outgoing service sheet / Birthing sheet’ which will contain…
- Train location
- Departure time
- Train ID
What information would you find on a schedule card and how does this differ from a diagram?
A diagram is an overview of a particular turn of duty whereas a schedule card will have more specific detail including actual stops, times and PIS code.
What does a 1, 2, 3, and 5 mean on a train ID.
1 - Passenger Express service
2 - Passenger Normal service (Stopper)
3 - Priority or specified ECS
5 - ECS
What does each aspect of a train ID indicate, for example 2P25?
2 - that this is a normal passenger service.
P - the route/area.
25 - that this is the 25th on the route that day.
Who do you contact to call in sick and when should you contact them?
The RM - ideally at least 1 hour prior to the start of your shift, indicating a return date if possible. You should advise of intent to return by midday the day prior to resuming.
What two things do you need to do before booking off?
Complete any reports for the shift and ensure you are aware of your next shift.
