Bones Flashcards
Typical Cervical Vertebrae
C2-C6 are normal vertebrae. Only they contains bifid process and a transverse foramen. The body is round, oval and smaller.
Atypical cervical vertebrae
C1-2, C7.
C1
Atlas. Atypical. Anterior/posterior arch, no body. Inferior to skull, working with occipital chondyles of skull.
C2
Axis. Has dens (odontoid process). has superior articulating surface
Typical Thoracic Vertebrae
Facts or flat areas for articulation. transverse costal facets that articulate with the tubercle of ribs. Head of rib goes into Superior Demi Facet.
Superior/Inferior process that connect the vertebrae together.
Spinous process not bifid, it’s long and slender
Typical Lumbar Vertebrae
short and stubby Spinous process, Large/chunky body shaped like a kidney bean. Mammilary process is attachment of deep back muscles
Sacrum
5 fused vertebrae
sacral foramina where rami come out of
Ala-fusion and expansion of transverse process
sacral promontory-obstetrical landmark
Sacral hiatus- allows for caudil epidural, dorsal
dorsal sacral foramen-flat, allows nerve rootlets
C7
Has transverse foramen, but they are too small for artery to run through, so the artery runs over top.
coccyx
4 fused vertebrae
What ribs have no costal groove?
1, 10, 11, 12
What ribs have no tubercle or neck?
11, 12
Head of rib 7 articulates with…
superior demifacet T7 and inferior demifacet of T6
What does rib 1 have that other ribs do not?
subclavian artery groove and anterior scalene muscle, no costal groove
True ribs
1-7
False ribs
8-10
