Bone Joints and Movements Flashcards
Contains fluid for movement; most common joint in the body
Synovial Joint
Allows bones to slide or glide (Ex: spine, wrist, ankle)
Gliding
Allows flexion, extension, abduction, adduction, and circumduction (ex: thumb joint where thumb meets wrist)
Saddle
Allows flextion and extension (ex: knee/elbow)
Hinge
Rotation (radioulnar [radius and ulna] atlantoaxial [atlas and axis] joint)
Pivot
Allows flextion, extension, rotation, and circumduction (Ex: hip/shoulder)
Ball and socket
Allows all movement besides rotation (Ex: wrist, fingers, and toes)
Ellipsoid/ Condyloid
Includes 4 components:
1) Bone= rigid bar
2) Joint= pivot point (Fulcrum)
3) Extremity= where movement occurs
4) Muscles= the force that supplies energy for movement
