Perthes disease
Perthes’ disease is a condition affecting the hip joint in children
Blood supply to head of femur is disrupted
Describe the term “Slipped epiphysis”
The epiphysis and diaphysis of the femur has slipped out of their normal position to each other
Rheumatoid arthritis
is a long-term condition that causes pain, swelling and stiffness in the joints
Osteoporosis
Bone become brittle and fragile,
Mineralised bone decreases in mass, until it reaches a point where it cant provide adequate support.
LOSS OF BOME MASS
2 types of osteoporosis
Type 1»_space; occurs in post menauposal women
Due to increased osteoclast number (associated with less estrogen)
type 2»_space; occurs in elderly
Osteoporosis risk factors
1) smoking
2) gender (women)
3) elderly
4) whites
5) decreased activity
6) insufficient calcium intake and reabsorption
Osteomalacia
Bone become soft
