1
Q

What is meant by bonding?

A

The noble gases are the only element containing eight electrons in their outer shell. These atoms are particularly stable and exist on their own

Q

Why do ionic compounds tend to be solid at room temperature?

A

Because they are formed of alternative positive and negative ions and because they are all held together with these strong electrostatic forces of attraction, the oppositely charged ions pack tightly with each other and form a crystal lattice structure that is extremely hard to break
