Engine Fire, Engine Severe Damage or Separation

A

Messages: L ENGINE FIRE R ENGINE FIRE
Condition: One or more of these occur:
§ Engine fire warning
§ Airframe vibrations with abnormal engine indications
§ Engine separation
Actions:
1. A/T ARM switch………………………………OFF
2. Thrust lever (affected side)………Confirm………Idle
3. FUEL CONTROL switch (affected side)………Confirm………CUTOFF
4. Engine fire switch (affected side)………Confirm………Pull
5. If the engine fire warning light is illuminated:
a. Engine fire switch……Rotate to the stop and hold for 1 second
b. If after 30 seconds the engine fire warning light stays illuminated:
i. Engine fire switch………Rotate to the other stop and hold for 1 second

Cabin Altitude or Rapid Depressurisation

A

Message: CABIN ALTITUDE
Condition: A cabin altitude exceedance occurs.
Actions:
1. Don the oxygen masks.
2. Establish crew communications.
3. Check the cabin altitude and rate.
4. If the cabin altitude is uncontrollable:
a. PASS OXY switch…………………Push and hold for 1 second.
b. Without delay, descend to the lowest safe altitude or 10,000 feet, whichever is higher.
c. To descend:
i. Move the thrust levers to idle.
ii. Extend the speed-brakes.
iii. If structural integrity is in doubt, limit airspeed and avoid high manoeuvring loads.
iv. Descend at Vmo/Mmo

Q

Dual Engine Failure

A

Condition: One of these occurs on both engines:
§ Engine flameout
§ No response to thrust lever movement
Actions:
1. ENG START selectors (both)…………………FLT
2. Thrust levers (both)……………………………..Idle
Do not advance thrust levers during engine recovery until above 50% N3
3. FUEL CONTROL switches (both)…………CUTOFF, then RUN
4. If engine appears stalled or EGT approaches the Standby Engine Indicator placard limit:
a. FUEL CONTROL switch (affected engine)………Confirm….…..CUTOFF, then RUN
b. If engine appears stalled again or EGT approaches the Standby Engine Indicator placard limit, repeat as needed.

Q

Engine Limit or Surge or Stall

A

Condition: One or more of these may occur:
§ Engine indications are abnormal
§ Engine indications are rapidly approaching or exceeding limits
§ Abnormal engine noises are heard
§ There is no response to thrust lever movement or the response is abnormal
§ Flames in the engine inlet or exhaust are reported
Actions:
1. A/T ARM switch……………………………………………OFF
2. Thrust lever (affected side)……Confirm………Retard until engine indications stay within limits or the thrust lever is at Idle

Airspeed Unreliable

A

Condition: Airspeed or Mach indications are suspected to be unreliable. (Items which can indicate unreliable airspeed are listed in the Additional Information Section.)
Objective: To identify a reliable airspeed indication, if possible, or to continue the flight using the Unreliable Airspeed table in the Performance Inflight chapter.
1. Autopilot disengage switch………………………Push
2. A/T ARM switch………………………………………OFF
3. F/D switches (both)…………………………………OFF
4. Set the following gear up pitch attitude and thrust:
a. Flaps extended………………………………10° and 75% N1
b. Flaps up…………………………………………4° and 75% N1

Q

Engine Failure or Shutdown (Not BOLDFACE but should be known)

A

Condition: One of these occurs:

 - An engine failure;
 - An engine flameout;
 - Another checklist directs an engine shutdown.

Actions:
1. Choose One:
- Airframe vibrations with abnormal engine indications exist:
› Go to the engine fire or engine severe damage or separation checklist.
- An engine has separated:
› Go to the engine fire or engine severe damage or separation checklist.
- Airframe vibrations with abnormal engine indication do not exist and an engine has not separated:
› Go to step two.
2. A/T ARM switch……….Off
3. Thrust lever (affected side)……….Confirm………..Idle
4. If engine conditions allow, operate at idle for two minutes to allow engine to cool and stabilise.
